Who has influenced you?
Sarah: Kristin Hersh, from Throwing Muses, was a favourite of mine when I first started playing music. Bonnie Raitt as well. The punk band X had a huge impact on me, as well as a lot of 90s indie rock.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Sarah: Evan Dando's Baby I'm Bored. He just played here in Massachusetts, and we covered his song Ride With Me on our last album, The Stars Are Out. He was great live as always. I'm also always listening to Neil Young's Decade. It's my get-up-and-get-the-day-started record.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Sarah: I try to think of what first excited me about music – a new way of songwriting, or a particular turn of phrase, and try to write something that gives me that feeling all over again.

Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles – The Stars Are Out: One of the city’s brightest stars returns with more of a pop-rock edge. Borges' sweet vocals remain and her band’s polished sound are the perfect compliment. The album does contain a handful of covers, including Magnetic Fields' "No One Will Ever Love You" and The Lemonheads' "Ride With Me", but her new takes are very refreshing.
